Through sadness

Where all the noise stops

Free from the pain
of your judgments
thrown out
against me

Capturing
and holding
Every breath that I take
Embracing myself for my soul’s sake
Knowing I am dying
A slow death, still the same
With all that you claim
I am
and will be

I know I am more
Than you will ever believe
Feeling more deeply
Than you could ever dream
Bleeding profusely
From the wounds
From your words
I retreat
And turn inwards

Retreating

I want to take my story, your stories, and create a movement that will help our sisters, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, aunts, nieces and friends recognize verbal and emotional abuse for what it is, to learn from our experience, and turn from or distance themselves from anyone that deploys the tactics common to all abusers.
It is in the strength of our collective spirits that I know we can make a difference.
